Jerry L Widener

Jerry L. Widener, age 87, was born in Lafayette, Indiana, on September 14, 1938, and passed away on January 12, 2026, with his devoted caregiver, neighbor, and what his family lovingly called his "super friend," Lori Bush, by his side.

Jerry was a graduate of Jefferson High School in Lafayette, Indiana, and proudly served in the United States Air Force following his graduation.

Jerry was a hardworking man who took great pride in his skills and craftsmanship. He spent most of his working life in the carpentry shop at Alcoa, where he was known for being exceptionally good with his hands. Woodworking was not just a job for Jerry-it was a passion. His pride and joy was a three-foot-tall hand-carved giant eagle that he proudly displayed on his back porch. Jerry also enjoyed making wooden items and often gave them away as heartfelt gifts to family, friends, and neighbors.

A lover of all animals, Jerry had a gentle spirit and a kind heart. He enjoyed listening to country music and found comfort in the simple joys of life and meaningful companionship.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Lois L. Widener Orr and Robert C. Widener, and by his beloved wife, Rosa Widener, whom he married on February 19, 1972. Rosa left this world on November 3, 2013, and following her passing, Jerry took great comfort in the unwavering support of his neighbors, Lori and Donnie Bush, who became his right hands and steadfast companions.

He is survived by his brother, Don Widener of Elkhart, Indiana; his cousins, Sherry Orr Mikesell of Lafayette, Indiana, and Jackie Orr Ketterer of Lafayette, Indiana; along with extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.

Entombment will take place at later date where Jerry will be laid to rest with his late wife Rosa at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens 1718 W 350 N West Lafayette IN 47906.
