Jerry Alan Wormsley, 80, passed away March 9, 2026.
Jerry attended Falling Water Elementary and studied radio and television repair at Kirkman Technical High School before earning a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. He married the love of his life in 1965 while attending college.
Jerry enjoyed spending time with his family and remained close to his siblings and cousins throughout his life. He was especially proud of his children and grandchildren and always supported their dreams and interests. His interests included cave exploring, hiking, ham radio, genealogy, Civil War and Native American history, and Civil War relic hunting. He also edited and organized diary notes from the Spring Place Moravian Mission to the Cherokees from the early 1800s until their removal west.
During his career, Jerry worked as a cartographer, accountant, repair and calibration technician, and later supervised one of the South's leading standards laboratories. He served 30 years with the Tennessee Valley Authority before retiring at age 49.
He was active in community and historical preservation efforts, helping restore and care for the Tyner/Silverdale Confederate Cemetery since high school. He also supported Levi Cemetery, presented programs on Civil War and Native American history to students and community groups, and volunteered with the National Park Service. Jerry was an active member of Union Springs Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Barbara Jean Wormsley; his son, John Anthony Wormsley; and his grandson, Ricky Griffin.
Survivors include his children, Jeffrey (Kathy) Wormsley, Cindy (Jack) Whitley, and Scott (Cindy) Wormsley; brother, Lee Wormsley; sister, Anne Adams; grandchildren, Randy Griffin, Tonya Anderson, Mark Whitley, Adam Whitley, and Amy Whitley; great-grandchildren, Christopher Griffin, Kamden Anderson, Brynleigh Anderson, Alice Whitley, and Jayden Whitley; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be Friday, March 13, 2026, from 4–8 p.m. and Saturday from 10–11:30 a.m. at Williamson and Sons Funeral Home. Services will be held Saturday at 12 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Odell Broadway officiating. Burial will follow at Levi Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Steve Anderson, Adam Whitley, Joey Wormsley, Logan Stapleton, Levi Stapleton, and Lucas Stapleton.
