ALEXANDRIA, IN – Jerry L. Young Sr., 72, entered peace and rest from his residence on Friday, January 30, 2026, following an extended illness.
He was born on January 27, 1954, in Anderson to Robert and Helen (Brantley) Young and was a lifelong Alexandria resident. Jerry was a graduate of Alexandria-Monroe High School-Class of 1972. He also was a graduate of various vocational training classes to receive his certification as a Master Automobile Mechanic. Jerry has worked at various garages and auto shops in Madison County down through the years, retiring in 2015. He was a fan and avid follower of drag racing and the NHRA. He was privileged to make acquaintance with drag racing legend Don Garlits. He was also active with pro class racing at Muncie Speedway for several years. Because of his lifelong affinity for cars, Jerry accumulated a large collection of mechanics tools and auto parts. Because of his advanced skill level of mechanical ability, he served several car owners that would only let Jerry work on their cars exclusively. Time spent with Jerry as he rebuilt and restored cars in his garage, with rock and roll car songs playing in the background will always be a treasured memory for the Young family.
