Petty Officer First Class Jess Lee Davis passed away unexpectedly on June 27, 2024, in Oceanside, California, at the young age of 38. He was not only a dedicated and exemplary sailor for the United States Navy, but most importantly he was a devoted family man.
He was born April 25, 1986, at Charles E. Still Hospital (modernly known as Capital Region) in Jefferson City, Missouri to Preston Davis and Anquenette (Davis) McDonald. Jess was the husband of Alysia (Tanner) Davis, the two were joined in holy matrimony on June 5, 2015, in Georgia.
Jess was a committed father, son, brother, uncle, and cousin. Close family and loved ones referred to him as "Little Jess" due to him being named after his maternal grandfather, and this nickname stuck with him from when he was young child, well into his adult years. Family was very important to him, he adored spending time with loved ones and attending family gatherings. Jess was the definition of being "the life of the party", you knew when he entered the room. He had the brightest presence and his boisterous, belly laugh was infectious. The good times never seemed to begin until Jess showed up.
Jess grew up attending church, as a young child he went to Second Christian Church, Disciples of Christ with his family. But he accepted Christ into his life at an early age and was baptized along with his little brother, Dominique McDonald, in 1998 by Reverend Vicky Bundy at 5th Street Christian Church, Disciples of Christ in Columbia, Missouri. His mother made sure to embed him and his brothers the importance of faith and having a strong relationship in God.
He enlisted into the US Navy in 2005 immediately after graduating from Maplewood High School in Nashville, Tennessee, where he received a Naval scholarship; he quickly distinguished himself through exceptional technical skill and steadfast commitment to his line of duty.
Throughout his nineteen years of service, Petty Officer Davis served with honor aboard several ships, the last one being USS Alexandria. And has received multiple commendations during his service.
Jess was known, not only for his professional excellence, but also for his camaraderie and mentorship. Respected as a leader among his peers and a trusted friend to many. Outside of his duties and spending time with loved ones, he thoroughly enjoyed riding his motorcycle.
Jess was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, whom he loved very dearly, Mary Loretta (Driver) Davis; maternal grandfather, Jess Lee Davis, Jr.; paternal grandmother, Jacqueline (Johnson) McKeithen; and paternal grandfather, Roosevelt Davis.
Left to cherish his memories is his loving wife, Alysia Davis; his mother, Anquenette (Billie Joe) McDonald of Jefferson City, Missouri; his father, Preston Davis (Rosalind) of Kansas City, Missouri; his children: Jess Lee Davis Jr, Janelle Davis, Kortnee Davis, Khyani Henderson, Jaylen Henderson, Cayden Pasley, and Makayla Frost; his brothers: Dominique McDonald, Byron Davis (Daniesha), Marcellus McDaniel, and Christopher Glover; a host of nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, and other close loved ones.
Petty Officer First Class Jess Lee Davis's legacy of service, dedication, and love for not only country but his family will remain in the hearts of all those who knew and loved him.
Fair winds and following the seas.
