Jesse Voss

Jesse Lee Voss, 27, of Oskaloosa died Thursday, November 9, 2023, of injuries from a car accident. He was born August 24, 1996, in Oskaloosa, the son of Jason and Jamie Jansen Voss. He attended Oskaloosa High School. Jesse loved to be in the kitchen and enjoyed cooking at KFC, Tasos, and last at Wood Iron Grill in Oskaloosa. If he wasn't cooking at work, he would be home watching cooking shows and trying new recipes for family and friends to try. His true passion was music. He would look for every opportunity to pick up his guitar and play. He always participated in the high school talent show and was a regular at many open mic events in Oskaloosa. If he could not find an opportunity to play for the public, he would track down a family member and ask them to listen to some of his new music. Jesse knew who he was and was always true to himself, he had a positive attitude and was always willing to help out friends and family.
His family includes his parents, Jason (Talisa) Voss of Oskaloosa, Jamie Voss (Souk Cavan) of University Park; his siblings, Carlie Voss (Landon Riley) of University Park, Lyndsey Voss of Oskaloosa, Trevor Scholtus of Albia, Ryan (Tarrin) Cloyed of Rose Hill, and Kenneth Cloyed of Oskaloosa; his maternal grandmother, Sandra Jansen of Oskaloosa; paternal grandfather, Tom Sand of Columbus, Indiana; his girlfriend, Caitlyn Lessard of Albia; a nephew, Morgan Riley; aunts and uncles, Chanda (Luke) Vande Wall of Oskaloosa, Andra Gunsolley of Oskaloosa, and Nicole (Kris) Fleurestil of North Carolina; several cousins; and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Dale and Rita Voss, and his maternal grandfather, Jim Jansen; and three infant cousins.
As was Jesse's wish, his body has been cremated. Visitation will begin Wednesday after 10:00 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be at the funeral Chapel Wednesday evening from 5-7 to greet friends and relatives. At 7p.m. Reverend Charlie McMillian will share some stories about Jesse. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. A Celebration of Life and time of sharing will be held Sunday at the Wood Iron Grill in Oskaloosa from 2-6 p.m. As a tribute to Jesse and his love of music please wear your favorite band t-shirt to Wood Iron Grill on Sunday.
