Jesus "Jesse" G. Leal, age 91 of Seguin, peacefully passed away on Monday, October 9, 2023, in his home surrounded by his loving family. Jesse was born on April 5, 1932, in Guadalupe County to Jose and Maria (Garza) Leal.
Jesse served on the Seguin City Council for ten years, from May 1960 - April 1970. He also served as Mayor Pro Tem. He also served on the City Council Board during the approval of Guadalupe Valley Hospital, Seguin High Rise, and The Seguin Fire Department on Vaughn Street just to name a few of Jesse's many accomplishments during his years on the City Council Board. He was a man of his Faith, his Country, his community, and his family. He helped break ground at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church as well as serving in many areas of the church. He was a proud military veteran serving in the Korean War.
Although Jesse had an illustrious career in the community. Above all those things Jesse loved and devoted his life to his family. He loved going to dances and dancing with his beloved wife. Jesse loved spending time with his family going to the river on weekends, and picnicking with his children, in Galveston, as well as Corpus Christi. He also enjoyed deer hunting, fishing with his sons and sons-in-law, and golfing with his brothers. Jesse was an avid baseball fan and enjoyed taking his family to games at the Astro Dome and Astro World. He enjoyed spending time at the flea market after retirement.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Criselda "Cris" (Serna) Leal, his son, Jaime S. Leal, his granddaughter, Chris Marie Alvarado, his parents and siblings Laurencio, Lucia, Guadalupe, Richard, Adolfo, and Eugenio.
Survivors include his children, Hector S. Leal, Nora Alvarado (Johnny), Regina Leal-Vandervort, Melissa Leal Tey (Carlos) and Denise Leal Rangel (Benjamin); daughter-in-law, Rosemary Leal; sisters, Herlinda Sotelo and Esther Toscano; grandchildren, Isaac Leal (Melanie), Melinda Ortiz, Hector Leal, Jr. (Esperanza), Jaime Leal, Dana Margio (Paolo), Carolyn Rodriguez (Joe), Marisela Elizondo (Adrian), Sirena Lopez (Rafael), Amber Mendez (Carlos), Makayla Tey, Nicholas Tey, Ryan Rangel, and Rayn Rangel; great-grandchildren, Alexander, Elizabeth, Isaac, Jr., Jesse, Jaime, Christopher, Joseph, Jocelyn, Jayden, Stephanie, Trey, Alicia and Victoria; great-great grandchildren, Kastiel, Jon-David, Erza, Xavier and Mason and as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Active Pallbearers will be Isaac Leal, Hector Leal, Jr, Jaime Leal, Nicholas Tey, Alexander Leal, Isaac Leal, Jr., Trey Davila,
Honorary Pallbearers will be Jesse Joe Leal, Jamie Joe Leal, Joseph Rodriguez, Jayden Rodriguez, Kastiel, Jon-David, Erza, Xavier, Mason Davila, and Rafael Lopez.
The recitation of the Holy Rosary with Nick Carrillo officiating will be held on Friday, October 13, 2023, at 1:30 p.m. following the Mass of Christian Burial at 2:00 p.m. at St. James Catholic Church with the Rev. Canon Stanislaw Fiuk, STD officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in San Geronimo Cemetery.
