Jewell “Marie” Denton
Marie, “Rena” 87 of Boling, went to be with our Lord and Savior on January 4, 2025. She was born August 17, 1937, in Simmons, Texas near Three Rivers, where she went to school. Her parents were Effie and John Redding. She lived many years in Weatherford Texas but returned to Three Rivers where she met and married Dan Denton in 1961. They moved to Boling Texas in 1971. Marie worked in the family business, Denton’s Truck service until Dan’s death in 1999. Her first grandchild Candi gave her the name Rena and after that, no one knew her real name. She thought she would retire, when the business closed, but that was short lived when she was called to watch after her great granddaughters. She finally retired 8 years later when the kids moved to Alief.
Marie was an avid reader and visited the Wharton library often. She would pick up, deliver and drop off books for friends who were busy with other things. She was a good cook and gave Dan the credit for teaching her that skill. She cooked her last pot of black-eyed peas on December 31, 2024.
She loved to watch TV with the old western shows being her favorite. She often commented that they no longer made the good shows. However, she loved Blue Bloods and Chicago PD. Marie was not a fan of the outdoors. She went to see Tyana at the beauty shop every Friday for as long as anyone can remember. She loved dark chocolate and enjoyed a bud light.
Marie was proceeded in death by her husband Dan, sons Ken Denton and Steve Jones and her parents. She is survived by daughters Angela Ryan, her husband Robert and Debbie Archer, along with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Marie was a Christian woman and longed to be with the Lord.
