Jill J. Bier, age 67, died Friday, March 7, 2025 at her home near Oregon. She was born February 24, 1958 in Elgin, Illinois the daughter of Stanley and Bernice (Wysocki) Sternal. After Jill graduated from Buffalo Grove High School, she attended Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee and obtained her teaching degree in Special Education. She then earned her master’s degree from Roosevelt University in Business Management. Jill was formerly married to Robert Bier. She worked in Special Education at Northwestern University and Kishwaukee Junior College. Recently, she worked for the Oregon School District at the elementary school as a teacher’s assistant. Jill loved being close to nature. She volunteered for a turtle research project and at a horse rescue farm. She was a naturalist and kind soul who had many pets including dogs, cats, birds, and chickens that she adored. She worked with conservatory projects preserving the prairie grasses and the habitat for wildlife. She loved to camp, kayak, and go hiking. Her hobbies included needlepoint, gardening, and antique shopping. She was predeceased by her parents Stanley and Bernice Sternal, and her sister Joyce. She is survived by her sister Judy McShane of Elgin, IL; 2 nieces Sherry Benike and David Solie of Wykoff, MN and Sandy (Kurt) Wiewel of Elgin, IL; 2 great nieces Kurstin and Kendra; and Jill’s special friend Doug. A celebration of life for Jill will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, March 24, 2025 at Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home, 110 S. 7th Street, Oregon, IL with Molly Bowen as celebrant leading the service. Visitation will be held prior the service from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Tails Humane Society in DeKalb, IL.
