James "Jim" Richard Cosper, 99, a resident of Arrey, NM, died at Fort Bayard Medical Center in Santa Clara, NM on Tuesday, October 4, 2022. He was born on April 6, 1923, in Eakly, OK to James Loyd and Florence (Yearwood) Cosper. James, being twice blessed, was reared by his second mother, Mary Dunn Cosper, after his mother, Florence, passed away when he was two years old. Jim served during World War II in the U.S. Army and was a combat Veteran in the European Theatre. He moved to New Mexico in 1949 from Oklahoma. He later lived in California, Utah and Nevada before returning to New Mexico. James also worked for the N.M. State Highway Department for several years. Later, he and his wife, Doris, became self-employed owning several businesses in Arrey, NM which include R. K. Tackle, Arrey Hardware, the Arrey Café, and a worm farm.
Survivors include several dearly loved nieces and nephews; grandson, Michael Jones and granddaughter, Kim James (Bryan); 3/Great-Grandsons; 1/Great-Granddaughter; and 1/Great-Great-Grandson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Doris (Williams) Cosper; sisters – Ethelda Lawless and Virginia Scott (Delmer); brothers – Buddy Cosper (Darma) and Lilburn Cosper (Darla); sons, Richard Cosper and David Cosper (Burline); daughters – Cynthia Riddle (Buzz) and Sandra Jones (Gary); and granddaughter, Rhonda Phillips (Mike).
Visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, October 14, 2022, from 4:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. at the Kirikos Family Funeral Home Chapel.
A Graveside Service will be held at the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Hatch, NM on Saturday, October 15, 2022, at 10:30 A.M. officiated by Mr. Bill West with Military Honors. Send flowers to the service of Jim Cosper
