Jim Roy Garn cashed in his chips on October 19, 2025, at his home in Fielding, his favorite place to be. He was born on September 26, 1946, in Tremonton, Utah, to Wayne Harley and Opal Wood Garn.

Jim grew up in God’s Footprint, aka Fielding, Utah, with his siblings Marlene (d.), Nancy (d.), Gerry (d.), Jerry, Clarke, & Dee. Jim was raised with faith, family, hard work, service, and basketball.

Jim hit the jackpot when he married the love of his life, Teri Lee Wright Garn. Jim and Teri knew they were dealt a winning hand, sharing over 50 years together on this earth, and now for all eternity. They both rejoiced in the blessing of Eternal Families and their reunion was surely jubilant. Their six amazing children are still in the game. Jenny (Alan) Christensen, Jared Garn, Tabitha (David) Neal, Misty Garn, Spencer (Dottie) Garn, Tyson (Jamie) Garn, 20 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.

Many late evenings were spent shooting hoops in front of the Garn family home. When asked Jim’s proudest accomplishment, he said “Playing Bear River Basketball in the state tournament.” The other love of his life was hunting with his family and friends. Chukar and pheasant hunts with cousins, deer hunts with brothers, elk hunts with his boys, and just this season hearing his granddaughter’s story of killing her first monster elk.

Jim served his country in Vietnam and then went on to serve The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Australia South Mission. During his retirement years, he spent countless hours in the temple. Jim never wavered in his faith, and lived by the creed: “What is right, is right and what is wrong, is wrong. Simple!”

He enjoyed service of all kinds, temple work, mowing lawns, serving as Mayor of Fielding, irrigating, and of course feeding any and all who walked through his door.

Jim’s love of cards lives on through his grandkids. Asserting, “I can’t beat them anymore, I taught them too well”. Jim’s legacy will be passed down through the generations, hand after hand. “If you’re gonna play the game, boy, you gotta learn to play it right” and Dad played it perfectly.

Funeral services will be held Friday, October 24, 2025, at 11 A.M. Viewings will be held Thursday, October 23, 2025, from 5-7 P.M. and prior to the service from 9-10:30 A.M. All services will be held at the Fielding Stake Center (4375 W 15600 N- Garland). Interment to follow at the Fielding Cemetery. The service will be livestreamed and can be accessed below.

In lieu of flowers, we would ask all those who loved and admired Jim to feed someone you love. Gather your family around a big kitchen table and enjoy a meal together!

DISCLAIMER: WE DO NOT PAN THE CROWD AND THE CAMERA IS FIXED UPON THE PULPIT. WE WILL TRY AND LIVESTREAM THE FUNERAL SERVICE. IF WE ARE UNABLE TO DO SO, DUE TO THE INTERNET SERVICE AT THE CHURCH, A RECORDING WILL BE UPLOADED WITHIN 24-48 HOURS AFTER THE SERVICE.
