Jim Lew Kentner, age 73, of Concord, California, was born on July 31, 1952, in North Platte, Nebraska. Throughout his life, Jim demonstrated a deep dedication to his family, his faith, and the things that brought him joy, especially music.

Shortly after graduating from high school, Jim answered the call to serve a two-year mission in the Bristol England Mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He returned home to attend Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, where he earned his degree and began his professional life as an accountant. His path wound through several meaningful chapters: the family greenhouse business in Bountiful, Utah; an extraordinary season as an FBI special agent accountant on the East Coast; and eventually a return to the West Coast to be near the people who mattered most. He rounded out his career as a controller for a law firm, bringing the same quiet integrity to that role that he had brought to everyone before it.

A lifelong lover of music, Jim carefully restored and digitized records from both his grandparents' and parents' collections. He cherished listening to them and took great joy in sharing these musical treasures with family and friends, often introducing them to songs and artists they might not have discovered on their own.

A devout Christian, Jim was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, following the example of his mother and father. He shared his love of Christ with everyone around him and consistently invited his family to follow in his footsteps, offering guidance and encouragement throughout his life.

Jim's devotion extended to his home and community. He spent countless hours caring for the hillside property around his home, building a garden for his wife, and maintaining every detail with diligence and care, all expressions of his love for family and life.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dean and Bernice Kentner.

He is survived by his wife, Debra Kentner; his three children: Norma Meyerkorth (Jason), Douglas Kentner (Keisha), and Kristina Bergman (Bob); eight grandchildren; and his sisters: Cynthia, Denice, Nora, and Claudean.

Funeral services for Jim will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the Bountiful 23rd Ward Chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, located at 650 East 2150 South, Bountiful, Utah. Family and friends are invited to a viewing at the same location from 9:15 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the service.

Services will be streamed live on the Russon Mortuary and Crematory YouTube Channel and on this obituary page. See YouTube video below.
