Dr. Jim L. Shaddix, age 64, was born on November 4, 1960 in Paso, Texas. Surrounded by family and love, Jim entered into glory on February 1, 2025 in Durham, North Carolina.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Debra G. (Joyner) Shaddix, daughter, Dallys (Phillip) Ruschmyer, sons, Clint (Jamie) Shaddix, Shane (Alicia) Shaddix, parents, Julian and Betty Shaddix, brother, Tom (Cindy) Shaddix, sister, Joy (Jay) Youngblood and grandchildren, Jackson, Avery, Ezra, Jade, Mercy, Payton, Judson Shaddix and Titus, Boston, Xander, Mazlow, Remi Grace and Crosby Ruschmyer.
Jim dedicated his life to faithfully preaching God's word and to raising up the next generation of preachers and ministry leaders. He was a model practitioner, a wise teacher, and a personal mentor to countless students and pastors. At home, he loved chipping away at an endless list of home improvement and renovation projects and then sitting down at the end a day and enjoying some of Debra's legendary cooking.
He graduated High School at Clint High School in Clint, Texas. Jim went on to further his education at Jacksonville State University, where he also played football. He then earned his Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and his Doctor of Philosophy from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.
Jim pastored five churches: Arlington Park Baptist Church in Arlington, Texas, Pine Grove Baptist Church in Picayune, Mississippi, Edgewater Baptist Church in New Orleans, Louisianna, Riverside Baptist Church in Denver, Colorado, The Church at Brook Hills in Birmingham, Alabama. He also served as the Interim Pastor for churches in New Orleans and Baton Rouge, Louisianna, Birmingham, Alabama, Jackson, Mississippi, Charlotte and Gastonia, North Carolina and Chattanooga, Tennessee.
The family would like to express our heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Danny Akin, the SEBTS administration and faculty, and the entire seminary community for their unwavering support over the last year; to our faith families at Faith Baptist Church, Imago Dei Church, Risen Christ Church for their consistent love and sacrificial service; and to all our brothers and sisters around the world who have prayed and encouraged us. We are eternally grateful.
In lieu of floral tributes, any donations may be made to The Pastor's Center at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary.
A Funeral Service will be conducted in Binkley Chapel at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary on Friday, February 7, 2025 to begin at one o'clock in the afternoon. A floating reception will follow from two to four o'clock in the Jacumin-Simpson rotunda. Jim will be laid to rest privately at the Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary Cemetery.
