FRANKLINTON
Richard Timothy "Timm" Powell
Richard "Timm" Powell, age 70, passed away peacefully at his home in Franklinton, NC,
on September 29, 2025, after a courageous battle with ALS. He was formally diagnosed
with the disease in February of 2024 after a steady decline in mobility that began the
year before.
Born and raised on Cherokee Street in Adelphi, Maryland, Timm was the son of the late
Richard James Powell and Jeanne Elizabeth Collins Powell.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 44 years, Brenda Sheahan Powell; his three children, Katherine Jean
Powell, Brendon Timothy Powell, and Lauren Powell-Casey; his sister, Pamela Powell Mest;
and his beloved grandchildren, Fionn Greyson Powell, Conor Cilian Powell, and Quinn
Ivy Powell Casey.
Timm proudly served his country in the United States Army as a military police officer in
South Korea. Following his service, he built a successful career in sales and
management, earning multiple awards including President's Club honors with Schwan's
Home Food Service and rising to Depot Manager in Fayetteville, NC. Prior to his years
with Schwan's, he worked in the printing and graphic arts industry, selling color
separations to ad agencies, magazines, and printing companies throughout the
Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Timm's life was filled with adventure,
laughter, and family. He was an avid outdoorsman who hiked the Appalachian Trail,
climbed Mt. Katahdin in Maine, and traveled across the United States to explore
National Parks and historic landmarks. He also dedicated many years to coaching Little
League softball, where he proudly led the Culpeper VA girls' All-Star team to a district
championship for 11–12 year olds in 1994-a victory that reflected his commitment to
teaching, mentoring, and inspiring others.
Above all, Timm will be remembered for his sarcasm and wit, the love he shared with
his family, and the joy he found in being "Grandpa." His warmth, sense of humor, and
adventurous spirit will live on in those who knew him best.
A burial of ashes ceremony will take place on November 21, 2025, at the Gate of
Heaven Cemetery in Silver Spring, Maryland, at 11:30AM, followed by a luncheon to
celebrate his life. Details to be provided later.
In honor of Timm, donations may be made to causes close to his heart: the ALS
