James Henry Waldo was born on March 18, 1943 to Marvin and Ruth Waldo in Lakeport, California. Jim passed away at home on February 21 with his loved ones around him. Jim was the 2nd child of 5 children. While Jim was still a child, the family moved to Parrott Mountain near Newberg, Oregon. Jim liked to tell the story that he had the first job of all the siblings because he took lunch to their dad in the woods and was paid a nickle for each lunch delivered. Jim attended Tualatin elementary school and graduated in 1961 from Sherwood High School. Jim worked at a tannery and other jobs after high school.
Jim was invited by Milton and Ruby Sparks to live with them in Albany in 1962. Milton got Jim a job at the plywood mill at that time. On November 14, 1963 Jim made a vow to serve the Lord in a gospel mtg in the town of Jefferson in Howard Mooney and Don Brist's mtgs. He kept that vow to the Lord all his life. In 1964 Jim met a young lady, JoAnn Combs, from Idaho in a Sunday morning meeting. She had moved to Albany to work. On April 3, 1965, Jim made a vow to be true to JoAnn and he did that all his life, for 60 years this coming April.
They were blessed with a son, Monte and later while living in Crabtree another son was born, Todd.
Jim began working at Western Kraft Paper mill as a paper maker and later a store keeper and retiring after 42 years. In 1974 Jim and JoAnn moved to the home on Crocker Lane where they enjoyed many times with family and fellowship with their friends and neighbors. They were thankful for the privilege of having fellowship service in their home for 40 years until Jim was no longer able to host the meeting.
During their years together with the 2 boys, they enjoyed camping at the beach and in the mountains and attending conventions with their camper. They loved to travel and visited Philippines, Micronesia islands, Guam, Saipan, and Ecuador. In between the trip to the Philippines and the Micronesia trip they were blessed with 2 grandsons, Jeremy and Blake. One of the main highlights of their travels later in life was a 10,000 mile trip across the US. They got to see their grandson, Jeremy, that was stationed at Virginia beach, Virginia. Jim and JoAnn particularly enjoyed that trip across the US because later Jim was diagnosed with Parkinson's and his activities were much more limited.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Ruth, and a sister, Joy.
Jim is survived by his loving wife, JoAnn, and 2 sons, Monte and wife Lori, of Brownsville, OR. Todd of Eugene, OR. 2 grandsons, Jeremy and Blake. 3 brothers, Ron, Howard and Wilbur, and many cousins and many friends.
Jim's body was donated to Western University of Health Sciences in Lebanon with the hope that it might be helpful with Parkinson research.
