Jimmie Ray Davis (Jim) (77), born on March 24, 1947, of
Dyersburg, Tennessee, passed away on March 4, 2025.
Jim was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who cherished his family above all else. He was married to the love of his life, Nancy, for 54 wonderful years. Together, they built a life centered on love, faith, and family.
He was a proud and loving father to his three children: Danielle (David) Smith, Jared (Ashley) Davis and Bret Davis. Jim adored his eight grandchildren and took great joy in being part of their lives: Andrew (Madison), Abbey, and Emma Smith, Caden and Lylah Davis and Carson, Ashton, and Addison Davis. Also left to cherish his memory is his sister-in-law, Marilyn and husband William (Bill) Godbout; as well as nieces: Jeanine (Brian) Finnegan, Deanna Kenney and Natalie Farmer. Although he was an only child, he found lifelong sibling-like connections with his adored cousins, Sharon (Davis) Willis, and Judy (Walker) Patton.
Anyone who knew Jim, knew that he was a builder. He had skilled hands and a creative mind that was constantly working to construct something beautiful. He approached his life in the same manner. There was never a project that was too big nor too small. He never started a work that he knew he could not finish. Each endeavor he set his mind to was built upon a strong foundation. He understood it would take time and dedication, but he was patient and consistent.
Jim was a man changed by faith and allowed that faith to guide him in every aspect of his life. He believed no one was beyond the Lord's reach. He was friendly and kind, not knowing a stranger. His compassionate demeanor allowed him to speak the word of the Lord into the hearts of others. He was selfless, putting others before himself. He was a man slow to anger and quick to love. As a husband, he had unconditional love for his wife, whom he referred to as "Nancy, my Love." As a father and grandfather, Jim always led by example as a role model. He was the model dad that every father should seek to emulate and be lucky to take a page from his book. He was a strong, gentle, faithful man constantly instilling meaningful values in his children and grandchildren. Just like his building projects, he created an enduring and indestructible foundation for his family. He spent his life building upon that foundation, and now his most important project is complete.
Jim's life was a testament of kindness, hard work, and steadfastness to those he loved. His warm heart, sense of humor, and steady presence will be deeply missed and forever cherished by all who knew him. His legacy of love and family will live on in the hearts of those who were blessed to know him.
Funeral services will be held in the chapel of Dyersburg Funeral Home on Monday, March 17, 2025 at 3:30 p.m. conducted by Pastor Ron Lovins with interment to follow in Fairview Cemetery in Dyersburg. Visitation will be held prior to services, beginning at 1:30 p.m.
