Jimmie W. Evans, age 75, passed away on December 1, 2023. He was born on
February 13, 1948, in Miami, Florida, to Elinor Frances Wood and Euclin "Tex"
Evans. His stepfather was James R. Galbraith. Jim spent the first years of his life
in Cuba and Haiti. He also spent time in Pampa, Texas, where his biological father
lived. He came to Grants, NM, with his mother and stepdad when he was 8 years
old and lived here for the remainder of his life. Jim was in the Army during the
Viet Nam War, where he served as a medic at Tripler Hospital in Honolulu, Hawaii
for 3 years. He returned to New Mexico and attended college at UNM where he
met his first wife, with whom he had one son, Zachary Evans. He later worked as
a miner for Homestake Mine and became a certified welder during the mining
boom in Grants. Jim retired from Tri-State Power Plant where he worked as a
Journeyman Electrician. He met his wife, Beverly Michael, in 1983 and they were
married in 1986. Jim was many things during his lifetime, but what he will be
remembered most for is his art. Jim's paintings will live on in perpetuity and will
continue to be loved by all who see them. He will be missed.
Jim is survived by his wife Beverly Michael of Grants; his son Zac Evans and his
wife Virginia Milstead and his twin granddaughters Tess and Esther of Sherman
Oaks, CA; his brother Bob Evans of Sun City, AZ; and sister Susan (Galbraith)
Williamson of Albuquerque, NM. He is preceded in death by his sister Gail Tillman
of Hollywood, FL; and his mother, father and stepfather.
A private viewing will be held on Wednesday, December 6, 2023 at Mt. Taylor
Mortuary. A Celebration of Life will be held in the future for all his friends, family
and loved ones. Fly with the Valkyrie Jim. We will see you on the other side.
