Funeral services honoring the life of Jimmie Harrell Evans, Sr., will be held on Friday, April 19, 2024, at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church at 11:00 am with Bro. Matt Warren and Bro. Kendall Price officiating. Burial will follow at the Pleasant Hill Baptist Cemetery under the direction of Jeane's Funeral Service. Serving as pallbearers will be Jimmie Evans III (Tri), Gary Evans (Hunay Bun), Edgar Lewis Evans, Jr., Jimmie Evans IV, Mason Evans, and Joseph Harris. Honorary pallbearers will be Kai Luke Evans, Carter Evans, Nathaniel Evans, and Theodore Evans.
Visitation will be held on Friday, at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church from 10:00 am until time of service.
Jimmie Evans Sr, 84, died April 16, 2024, at his home with family. He was born December 24th, 1939, in Jena Louisiana, the Son of Lonnie R. and Gladys M. (Windham) Evans.
Bro. Jimmie joined the Air Force, December of 1956 and served for 20 years and 1 day, he was always quick to say. During his military service he completed 3 one-year remote site tours and 1 combat tour in Vietnam.
2 Years before Bro. Jimmie retired from the service, he accepted the Lord into his life and shortly after he was called by the Lord to preach, which he did faithfully for 50 years, and served as a pastor in 6 churches in the state of Louisiana, AMEN! He graduated from Houston Baptist University with a Bachelor's, in Biblical Theology.
Bro. Jimmie married Sharon Grace Ford on June 6, 1958. They celebrated their 56th year and one month of marriage before her passing, July 21 of 2014.
Bro. Jimmie remarried to Bobbie J. Penton, on May 30, 2015, until his death.
In addition to his parents, Lonnie, and Gladys Evans, he was preceded by his brothers, Donnald Evans and Leo Evans and his son, Leonard Evans. Surviving in addition to his wife, Bobbie, are his brothers Lavelle Evans, Lonnie Jr. and his wife, Rhonda Evans and his sister, Shirley and her husband, Lavon Ainsworth. Surviving Children; son, Jimmie Jr. and his wife, Rebecca Evans, daughter, Felisha Alcala, and son, Edgar and his wife, Alycia Evans. Nine Grandchildren: "Tri", Gary, Lewis, Miah, Mikey, Dianna, Rebecca Grace, Brittanie, and Blair Shae, and twenty Great Grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Pleasant Hill Cemetery fund or Mt. Carmel Baptist Church.
