J.T. Hinson Obituary
Jimmie Taft Hinson, Jr., affectionately known as J.T. to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on November 13, 2024, at the age of 87 in San Angelo. Born on January 30, 1937, to Jimmie and Leon Hinson, in Eddy, TX, J.T. lived a life marked by devotion to his family, service to his country, and a passion for the great outdoors.
J.T. married the love of his life, Shirley West, in 1955, and together they embarked on a journey of love and companionship that lasted 70 cherished years. Their partnership was blessed with a beautiful family that grew to include their son D'Wayne and daughter-in-law Judy; daughter Sherryl Chandler; son Jim and daughter-in-law Brenda; and son Craig and daughter-in-law Susan, all of San Angelo. J.T.'s legacy further extended to 17 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren, who will all remember him as a beacon of light and laughter in their lives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Edith Rodgers, and brother Johnny William Hinson.
Proud to have served his country, J.T. was a veteran of the U.S. Marines, a period of his life that instilled in him virtues of discipline and respect that he carried throughout his life. His work ethic and integrity were evident to all who knew him, and his contributions to his community were numerous and impactful. He was a member of Belmore Baptist Church and enjoyed attending services each Sunday.
J.T.'s interests were as grand as the Texas sky he so loved. An avid fisherman, hunter, and sharpshooter, he found peace and joy in the tranquility of nature. Those who were fortunate enough to know J.T. would describe him as funny, friendly, and loving. His sense of humor was a gift that he shared generously, bringing smiles and laughter even in the most challenging times. His friendly demeanor made him a cherished friend and a beloved member of his community. Above all, J.T.'s loving nature was the cornerstone of his existence. His profound love for his family was evident in every action and decision he made.
J.T.'s life was a testament to the power of positivity, the strength of family bonds, and the enduring spirit of the human heart. He will be deeply missed by all who were touched by his kindness, humor, and love. As we bid farewell to J.T., we take solace in the countless memories he leaves behind, memories that will continue to inspire and comfort us all.
Visitation will be held at Shaffer Funeral Home on Tuesday, November 19th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. A graveside service will take place at Belvedere Cemetery on Wednesday, November 20th at 10:00 a.m..
