Jimmie Lou Shell, age 83, of Rensselaer, formerly of Lowell, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at the Riley Residence in Munster. Born on September 16, 1941, in Carbon Hill, Alabama, Jimmie was the daughter of Luther and Alta (Nicholson) Williams. She married the love of her life, Perry Richard Shell, who preceded her in death on November 21, 1989. Jimmie dedicated her career to caring for others, working in home health for the elderly. A woman of faith, she was an active member of Brookside Church in Rensselaer and found joy in giving back to her community. She directed the church-run food pantry in Shelby, Indiana, for over a decade and played a key role in expanding its outreach and visibility. In her free time, Jimmie loved quilting, crocheting, gardening, and-above all-delegating tasks with a smile. Her warmth, sense of humor, and strong will touched many lives. She is survived by her five children: Lori (Gary) Ownby, Lisa (Bob) Ashenbrener, Mike (Cathy) Shell, Cindy (Greg) Larzelere, Steven (Amanda) Shell. She also leaves behind 17 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and her sister, Martha Stephens. Jimmie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Perry; and her sisters, Mary Peddy and Ann Griffin. Family and friends are invited to gather at Jackson Funeral Service in DeMotte on Friday, August 8, 2025, from 10:00 AM until the time of service at 12:00 PM, with Pastor Adam Conley officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Cemetery. Luncheon to follow at the American Legion in DeMotte.
