Jimmy Roy Chessor
July 28, 1948 - July 2, 2023
In the depths of our sorrow, we share the heartbreaking news of the passing of our beloved Jimmy Roy Chessor on July 2, 2023. He departed from this world, leaving an irreplaceable void in our lives, and his memory will forever be cherished by family, friends, and all those fortunate enough to have known and been known by him.
Jimmy was born on July 28, 1948, touching our world with love, humor, and humility. He was born in Memphis, TN, but it was in Waverly and McEwen, TN where he lived and thrived, forging deep connections, and leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of those he encountered, especially his beloved family.
Jimmy held a remarkable passion for many things. He found joy in his farm, in history and current events, in maintaining an especially meticulous lawn. He loved to be wherever the grandkids were and did not miss a single sports game, spelling bee, or choir performance if he could help it. He was a lifelong UT football fan (Go Vols!) but you could, on occasion, catch him wearing a Vanderbilt shirt only for his granddaughter, who he was so proud of for being a recent alumna. Jimmy was a loyal employee at TDOT until 2012, when he chose to retire so that he could care for his beloved “Lindy” while she battled breast cancer. He did that every day until her death. More than anything in the world, he was a present and tender husband to Linda, dad to 3 children, and grandfather to 4 grandchildren and 1 precious great grandson.
Jimmy held an unyielding place in the hearts of his cherished family. As far as extended families go, ours is a close one. Jimmy was “Dad, Grandaddy, and Uncle Jim'' to so many people that were lucky enough to receive his love, generosity, and concern. He possessed a calm and compassionate spirit, always ready to lend a hand, offer guidance, or provide comfort in times of need. His presence was a beacon of strength and solace that we all held very dear.
If you asked him his greatest achievements, his family would top that list by far. And if you ask his family, we would say we felt like the luckiest to be loved by him.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 8:00pm Wednesday, July 5th and from 10:00am until service time Thursday, July 6th at Humphreys County Funeral Home.
A Masonic Service will be conducted at 7:00pm Wednesday, July 5, 2023, in the Humphreys County Funeral Home Chapel.
Funeral Services honoring the life of Jimmy will be conducted at 1:00pm Thursday, July 6, 2023, in the Humphreys County Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Brandon Baker and Bro. Keith Grigsby officiating.
Interment will follow in Taylor Cemetery in Hurricane Mills, TN.
All are welcome to help us celebrate Jimmy, a dearly loved and wholly good man.
