Jimmy Dale “JD” Lawson, 79, of Sterling, Virginia, passed away on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at his home with his loving wife, Ingrid, by his side.
Born on May 7, 1946, in Pennington Gap, Virginia, to John Walter and Annie Hammonds Lawson, Jim was the oldest of five children.
A proud patriot, he believed deeply in doing what was right. He served his country and community throughout his life including service as a Master Police Officer for the U.S. Army (1966-1969), work for the FBI, 38 years with the Fairfax County Police Department, and 10 years with the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Department.
Jim was a devoted and doting husband who enjoyed traveling and discovering new places with his wife Ingrid. He treasured spending time with his family, enjoying meals at favorite local restaurants, watching ball games, caring for his pets—first Phoebe and later Casey—and taking meticulous care of his home and cars. Empathetic and kind, Jim had a gift for lifting spirits and bringing laughter wherever he went.
He adored his beautiful wife and loved his family deeply. Jim is survived by his wife Ingrid of 32 years; Daughter Ari, son-in-law Jeff, and granddaughter Sasha; Daughter Heidi, son-in-law Joey, and grandchildren Cooper and Ava; and siblings Sue, Kenneth, Jilda and Tonya. He is also lovingly remembered by numerous nephews, nieces, in-laws, and extended family members.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Carl for his remarkable friendship and steadfast support to both Jim and Ingrid.
