Martha Wilburn

1970 - 2025

Martha Ann McCauley Wilburn Potts of Lovettsville, Virginia, passed away at her home on December 21, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. A devoted wife, mother, sister, friend, and teacher, Martha touched countless lives with her kindness, strength, and unwavering dedication to others.

Born on December 22, 1970, to Dennis Wilburn Sr. and Margharite "Peggy" Wilburn, Martha was raised in Richmond, Virginia. She graduated from Mary Baldwin College with a Bachelor's degree in Communication and later earned her Master's in Education from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU).

Martha began her teaching career in Richmond, where she taught in both Catholic private schools and public middle schools. After moving to Lovettsville in 2004, she continued her passion for education with Loudoun County Public Schools, teaching both elementary and middle school students until her retirement in 2025. Her dedication to nurturing young minds remains one of her most enduring legacies.

Martha married Travis Potts in Richmond in July 1996, and together they shared thirty wonderful years, raising their two beloved daughters, Caroline and Sophia.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Melissa Gagne; her father, Dennis Wilburn Sr.; and her mother, Margharite "Peggy" Wilburn. She is survived by her husband, Travis Potts; her daughters, Sophia and Caroline Potts; her sisters, Annie Benedetti and Carol Patricia Fertitta; and her brother, Dennis Wilburn Jr.

A Memorial Service and Remembrance of Life will be held at 12:00 p.m. on May 2, 2026, at First Christian Church – Falls Church. All who knew Martha are welcome to attend. A reception will follow the service.
