Jim Lomenick, 89, of Perkins, passed away peacefully Friday, Jan. 3, 2025, with family at his side.

His services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, at Life Church in Stillwater with Terry Tharp and Life Church Pastor Cody Chaloner officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens under the direction of Dighton-Marler Funeral Home, Stillwater. Grandsons and great-grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Visitation will be Tuesday, January 7, 2025 from 9AM to 8PM with family receiving guests from 5PM to 7PM at the funeral home.

Jim was born Aug. 6, 1935, in Gotebo, Okla., to Austin and Ivon (Bond) Lomenick. He spent his early years in southwest Oklahoma before eventually moving to the Stillwater area. He and Linda Higgins were married on Dec. 22, 1958, and spent the large majority of this union in the Perkins and Stillwater area. She preceded him in death in October of 2004. He later met and married Elena Munoz in 2010.

He was an electrical lineman by trade and finished his long career of climbing poles when he retired from Central Rural Electrical Cooperative in January of 1998. After his retirement, he stayed busy working at various entities such as the Payne County Stockyards, Vassar Manufacturing, and mowing property owned by Harland Wells. Jim also served a tour of duty in the United States Army.

Jim also stayed active with his hobbies of fishing, woodworking, and horse trail rides. His favorite fishing lure of choice was a purple plastic worm with a white tail that helped him fill stringers of largemouth bass for occasional family fish fries. Numerous cookouts and family gatherings were not uncommon. His woodworking efforts not only created “lots of sawdust”, but many hand-crafted items for family and friends. Weekend trail rides were also a part of his life. And a practical joke was never out of the question.

While he wasn’t much of a sports fan, he enjoyed watching three generations take part in their extra-curricular activities. It began with his kids, then grandkids, and culminating with his great-grandchildren. He did enjoy watching college softball and rodeos on the television and, of course, his multitude of western movies.

In addition to his first wife Linda, he was also preceded in death by his parents, one sister Myra Downen, and one great-grandson Sawyer Lomenick-Wilkerson.

Survivors include his wife Elena of the home; children and their spouses, Rick and Renae Lomenick of Perkins, Ron and Judy Lomenick of Stillwater, Rhonda and Mark Anderson of Perkins, Becky and Jeff Blocker of Stillwater, Roberto and Maria Chavez of Glencoe, Salvador Chavez and Clara Romero Haskell, Wash., Ana Chavez and Maria Rodriguez, both of Perkins; grandchildren Wil Anderson and wife Shannon, Savannah Waters and husband Aaron, Krystal Lomenick, Kyle Lomenick and wife Jackie, Jordan McDonald and husband BJ, Cooper Lomenick, Casey Lomenick, Maira Chavez, Anthony Chavez, Jashia Ferretiz, Jovanna Chavez, Valeria Chavez, Salvador Noe Chavez, Adriana Flores, Abelino Flores, and Roberta Rodriguez.

He is also survived by great-grandchildren Ethan Anderson, Matti Anderson, Payton Lomenick, Hayden Lomenick, Parker Lomenick, Dallen Waters, Zeb Waters, and Chance Waters.

Several nieces and nephews and numerous friends also survive him.
