Jimmy Pledger Obituary
Jimmy Wayne Pledger, born on March 30, 1945, in Athens, Georgia, peacefully departed this life on June 18, 2025. He leaves behind a legacy of dedication, love for his family, and service to his community.
Wayne worked for the Athens Clarke County Road Department, where he worked as a truck driver. Throughout his life, Wayne was an active member of various congregations, with deep roots at Crawford Pentecostal Church. He also attended Mt. Pleasant Community Church and was currently a member of Restoration Apostolic Church. His faith was a guiding light, shaping his values and the love he shared with those around him.
In addition to his professional life and spiritual commitments, Wayne had a passion for woodworking. He participated in craft fairs where he shared his creations with others, showcasing not only his skill through W.W. Woodworking.
Wayne is survived by his loving wife, Wanda Jones Pledger, and their children: Ricky (Bonnie) Pledger, Scott (Miriam) Pledger, Sherrie (James) Davis, and Melissa (Justin) Bupp. He was a proud grandfather to Bailey (Chase) Vicars, Taylor (Lane) Money, Madyson Pledger, Brittany (David) Medina, Autumn (Chaz) Weaber, Noah Bupp, Isaac Bupp, and Willow Bupp, and he was also blessed with great-grandchildren, Blair Vicars, Corbin Money and Braxton Money , who brought boundless joy to his later years. He is also survived by his sister, Joyce Silvey. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh James Pledger and Mamie Lettie Pledger.
His life will be honored during a visitation at Lord & Stephens Funeral Homes Athens, located at 4355 Lexington Road, Athens, Georgia, on June 21, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at the same location at 1:00 PM with Pastor Ed Walden and Pastor Levi Taylor officiating. Burial will follow at Crawford Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Lane Money, James Davis, Justin Bupp, Isaac Bupp, Randall Smith and Wendell Smith.
