Jimmy Ray "Jimbo" Sessums of Lena was born February 18, 1958 and died March 22, 2024 at the University of Mississippi Medical Center at the age of 66.
Visitation will be Tuesday, March 26, 2024 from 5:00 – 8:00 at Wilcox Funeral Home, 106 South Jordan Street, Carthage. A celebration of life service will be held Wednesday, March 27, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at Wilcox Funeral Home with Bro. Benji Sessums and Bro. Aaron Tucker conducting the service. Interment will follow in Good Hope Cemetery near the intersection of Pleasant Hill Road and Mississippi Highway 13.
Mr. Sessums was preceded in death by parents, Warner and Inez Sessums. He is survived by his son, Benji Sessums (Jessica) and grandsons, Brannan and Christopher. He is also survived by his sister, Pat Smith and brother, Tommy Brooks (Dorothy) along with several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Sessums was retired from PECO and served in the United States Army. At the time of his death, he was Post Commander for American Legion Post 168, Carthage, and a member of the Legion Riders, who provide honorary motorcycle escorts to a Veteran's final resting place.
After retirement, he raised cattle and farmed. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking and spending time with Brannan and Christopher, the two boys who called him "PopPop." He was a gentle giant and will be missed by family, friends and all who knew him.
Pallbearers will be Malcolm Sumrall, Skip Sprayberry, Kirk Blocker, Tommy Lynn Brooks, Ray Smith, and Tony Kyzar.
