Jo Ann “Sam” Chick, 89, of Atlantic Beach, FL, passed gently on March 8. Sam was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Born and raised in Savannah, GA, she was a graduate of Commercial High School. She made her home at the beach for many years.
Sam will be remembered as a lover of people with the gifts of hospitality and grace in most any situation. She was a master at gift wrapping and her family always looked forward to receiving gifts from her at holidays, as much for the wrapping as for the gifts themselves. She traveled the world and loved learning new things. Sam prized education and was most proud of earning her own advanced certificate from the University of the South. She worked as a file clerk and stenographer for CSX Railroad in Savannah but retired when she moved to Florida in 1979.
She is survived by husband, Garland; daughter, Jodi Williams; grandsons, Harrison (Taylor) Williams and Lee (Skyla) Williams; great-grandchildren, Baker, Miller and Emma.
