Jo Ann (Smith) Green passed away at Sylvan Crossings in Waunakee on July 17, 2025. She was 96. Jo Ann was born in Kansas City, MO, and spent most of her younger years in Kansas, until she went to Oklahoma City during her teens. She graduated from high school there in 1946. She met Jack Green on a blind date that fall, and they were married on March 14, 1947. She had 75 years with him before he passed away.
After high school, Jo Ann took some secretarial training. She worked at the Boy Scout office in Oklahoma City for years. She and Jack later moved to California, where both of their daughters were born. They moved to Wisconsin in 1963 and to Madison in 1966. She stayed at home with their daughters until they were in high school. Jo Ann worked at the high school office, for a typing service, and as an aid at the UW Physical Plant. Jo Ann loved to knit, sew, crochet, read, and do crossword puzzles.
She was preceded in death by her husband and by her daughter Becky (Dave) Giles. She is survived by her daughter Suzi Green of Madison, granddaughters Mallory (Jerod) Nelson of Holmen and Whitney Graf of Madison, and by her great grandchildren, Clara and Ivan.
Private services will be held at a later date.
