Jo Ann (Willbur) McVicker, 88, of Battle Creek, Michigan died peacefully at home with her family at her side on Saturday, September 27, 2025.
Jo Ann was born August 27, 1937, in Bronson, Michigan, the daughter of Merle and Oma (Rench) Willbur. She grew up living on the bay at Gull Lake. Jo Ann was a 1955 graduate of Richland High School and then earned her LPN certification from Borgess Hospital in 1956. She was employed at Borgess Hospital in the Orthopedic Department until 1959, when she left to raise her son.
Jo Ann Willbur was united in marriage to Jack David McVicker on June 7, 1958, in Yorkville, Michigan. Sadly, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack on April 28, 1999. Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Julie McVicker of Battle Creek; a grandson, Chad (Amber) McVicker; granddaughter, Joy McVicker; four great-grandchildren; and special friends, John, Tamara and Ellie Smarsh and Marcia Springsteen. In addition to her husband, Jo Ann was preceded in death by her parents and several family members.
Jo Ann was a longtime member of Hickory Corners Bible Church. She put her nursing skills to work caring for her grandmother for 26 years, then her husband, mother and sister. Jo Ann volunteered as a cub scout leader and church leader; she loved children and animals. She loved being with family and friends; baking and camping. Jo Ann helped raise her grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She enjoyed watching “On Patrol” Friday nights and will be honored as a member of the “On Patrol Family” Jo Ann will be remembered for her kind and giving heart.
Friends will be received 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. Thursday at Baseline Church, where a service to celebrate Jo Ann’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, October 2, 2025. A luncheon will follow, and interment will be held at East Hickory Corners Cemetery. Jo Ann will be laid to rest next to her husband, Jack.
