Donald R. Miller, 85, of Battle Creek, died September 25, 2025 at home surrounded by his loving family. Donald was born August 5, 1940, in Detroit, MI to Kenneth and Mary (Bowie) Miller. He attended Detroit Cody High School graduating in 1958. He received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Central Michigan University and his Ph.D. in Education from Michigan State University. He spent his entire career as an educator, mainly as an Elementary Principal for Battle Creek Public Schools at Coburn and Urbandale Elementaries. He was very committed to the learning and development of young people and had a passion for education. His colleagues, staff and teachers were considered friends and each held a special place in his heart.

He was a committed community leader as a long-time member of the Rotary Club and served on its board in the 1980s. Most notably, he was the first to sponsor a female member of the organization in Battle Creek. He also served on the leadership boards of United Way, Battle Creek Community Concert Association and Burnham Brook for many years.

Donald married his wife Gloria in 1965. The couple enjoyed 60 years of marriage. Donald enjoyed music, especially playing guitar and writing songs for friends and family. He loved to sail, fly as a licensed pilot, read, play chess and various card games. His most treasured time was always spent with family and many close friends. He was known by all for his kindness, love for life, and easy smile.

Donald is survived by his loving wife, Gloria; a daughter, Jennifer (Lynn Harvey) Miller; a granddaughter, Gianna Harvey and his brother, Kenneth (Nancy) Miller II. He was preceded in death by his parents.

As per Donald’s wishes, no services will he held. Memorial donations in memory of Donald may be made to The Foundation Fighting Blindness or Centrica Hospice.
