Jo-Anne M. Matthews, 89, of Gloversville, NY, passed away peacefully, surrounded with love in her home, on Thursday, September 11. Jo-Anne was born in Hume, NY to the late Norman and Caroline Travis Thomas. She was married to the late Paul Matthews on June 25, 1960. They celebrated 51 years together. They were the proud parents to Gregory & Stephen. Jo-Anne & Paul moved throughout the years across NY State for Paul's career with the phone company. They made wonderful friends and maintained those friendships. Family and friends meant the world to Jo-Anne. They were blessed with 5 grandsons who made their lives complete. She loved sharing stories about her boys, daughters-in-law and five grandsons. Jo-Anne will be remembered for her compassion, kindness, love of family and loyal friendships. She was a member of the Early Risers Women's Bowling League, working with Paul every summer at Parker's Flowers, Johnstown, NY and Amico Funeral Home. The family would like to thank Marcia Oddy, and all the nurses/aides who gave love, compassion and kindness during her short illness and being able to keep her home. Jo-Anne is survived by her sons and daughter-in laws Stephen and Meghan with their sons Thomas, James and Sean; Gregory and Sue with their sons Joseph and Nicholas; her siblings Douglas (Carmen) Thomas and Melva Rice; also, many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother Beverly Thomas. Calling hours will be held on Saturday, September 20th from 3:00-5:00 pm followed by a brief service at the Amico Funeral Home, 150 South Main Street, Gloversville, NY. Private Burial will take place on Monday, September 22, at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery. Per the request of Jo-Anne in lieu of flowers memorial contributions to be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Avenue, Gloversville, NY, 12078.
