Jo De Witty Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by King-Tears Mortuary, Inc. - Austin on Jan. 21, 2026.
With profound love and heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Jo Ann Jimerson De Witty, a remarkable woman whose 78 years were filled with love, laughter, and a joy for life that spread to everyone around her. She was born on May 15, 1947, in Columbus, Mississippi, to parents Annie Thelma Barry and Moses Jimerson.

Jo Ann dedicated 30-plus years of service to the Department of Veteran Affairs, where she served diligently as a data entry specialist and mail processor. It was there that she met one of her closest friends and sister in Christ, Murlene Whitson, a friendship she cherished for many years.

After retiring in 2003, Jo Ann committed her time to her family and to being a devoted member of the Elks Lodge. She loved nothing more than Friday nights spent laughing with friends, enjoying a good drink, and dancing the night away at the Lodge. She was deeply committed to giving back through the Elks Lodge and was always supportive of its charitable programs.

She had a true love for shopping and never missed a day of it-a true shopaholic. Each morning after breakfast, she was ready to head out, and many cherished memories were made on her daily shopping trips.

Not far behind her on many of those outings was her dear friend Mytris "Tilo" Roberts, who shared countless trips to Walmart, Dollar Tree, and the thrift store-lovingly referred to by them as "the nasty store." They enjoyed gambling together and made weekends special with trips to El Rancho for menudo. They were also well known for visits to Golden Corral, where laughter was shared and leftovers were always brought home or borrowed as they would say.

Jo Ann was kind, loving, and thoughtful. Her generosity and care touched everyone who knew her. She will be deeply missed, but her spirit will live on in our hearts forever.

Jo Ann was predeceased by her parents, Annie Thelma Barry and Moses Jimerson, and her husband, Ural Edward De Witty.

Jo Ann leaves to cherish her memory:

Her child, Ronald Chirdell Dotson.

Her grandchildren, Khadijah Sanders, Ronald Chirdell Dotson III, Lajayshia Dotson, and Jasmine Janai Prince.

Her great-grandchild, Zander Dangerfield.

Other family members and special friends include: Mytris "Tilo" Roberts, Shirley Etheridge, Rene Car, Johnny Jimerson, Susie Jimerson, Patricia Jimerson, Derrick Jimerson, Raven Car, Murlene Whitson, Francis, Ronald Clee Dotson, MB, Edwin Roberts, and Beedy Mae.

A visitation for Jo Ann will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at 3:00 PM CST, at King Tears Mortuary, 1300 East 12th St., Austin, TX 78702. The funeral service will follow at the same location at 4:00 PM CST.

Please join us in honoring and celebrating her life. For those who cannot be present, virtual attendance will be available via a link on The King Tears website. Purple has been selected as the designated color for the service.

I first met 'Lil JoAnn' back in 1984 or 1985. I had transferred to Austin Texas from St. Paul Minnesota. We formed a bond of over 20 years at the VA. JoAnn had a way of making you deal with hardships through humor. Remember her sweet smile and laugh as I will. Condolences to her family, Lovingly from Gloria Easley of Chicago Illinois.
