Jo Farmer Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Southern Mississippi Funeral Services on Mar. 5, 2026.
Mrs. Jo Lynn Farmer, 66, of Ocean Springs, Mississippi, passed away peacefully on February 28, 2026.

Jo Lynn was born on November 25, 1959, in Laurel, Mississippi, to the late Tollie Thigpen, Sr. and the late Lillie Mae Thigpen of Rose Hill, Mississippi. She was the youngest of four children. She graduated from Heidelberg High School and enrolled in Alcorn State University on a band scholarship playing the clarinet. While pursuing her education, Jo Lynn moved to Ocean Springs, Mississippi, where she married the late Robert Farmer, Sr. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, and hard work. She was a devoted mother to three children who loved her dearly. Later, she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from the University of Southern Mississippi.

Throughout her life, Jo Lynn worked in many roles dedicated to serving others. She served her community by working as a Voting Poll Worker for the Jackson County Election Committee in Pascagoula, Mississippi. She spent 14 years as a tutor in the Biloxi public school system and later worked alongside her husband as an entrepreneur. She served as a Financial Analyst with Primerica Financial Services and as Assistant Supervisor for Farmer Construction. She also held a Mississippi Life and Health Insurance License and served as a Mississippi Notary Public. For a time, she worked as a supervisor at the Imperial Palace Casino in Biloxi. Before her health declined, she proudly worked for 17 years as a dedicated Licensed Phlebotomist at Singing River Hospital in Ocean Springs, MS.

Jo Lynn was a devoted Christian who believed deeply in the Word of God and shared her faith with others. In past years, she faithfully served at First Church of the Living God, P.G.T. in Pascagoula, Mississippi, in many capacities including pianist, treasurer, board member, choir member, and former First Lady. In recent years, she attended Church of the King in Biloxi.

Jo Lynn was known for her kindness, strength, and generous spirit. She enjoyed reading, completing DIY projects, researching financial strategies, and watching daytime soap operas. Above all, she cherished her family and especially her grandchildren, who brought her immense joy.

She leaves to cherish her loving memory, her children, Erica (Garry) Grant, Robert Jr. (Tiffany) Farmer, and Raven (O'Landez) Burks; her siblings, Tollie Thigpen, Sr. (Clara), Amos Thigpen (Mary-Anne) and Jerry Thigpen; her beloved grandchildren, Kyrah Grant, Garry Grant, Jr., Victory Grant, Nolani Farmer, Brecken Farmer, Brayan Burks, and Rayah Burks; and her extended grandchildren, Daijah Grant, Trinitee Blackmon and K'Darius Grant, 1 extended great grandchild, Kamari Russ and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, uncles, aunts, extended family members and dear friends.

Jo Lynn's legacy of faith, love, and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
