Jo Nell Holdman, affectionately known as "Jorilla," was born on April 10, 1936, in Merkel, Texas. She passed away peacefully on September 25, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter and cherished memories.

Jo was a dedicated professional who owned her own hair salon in Quinlan Texas, for an impressive 24 years. She later embarked on a new adventure by opening a seafood restaurant with her son and brother-in-law in Dallas, Texas, and Jo alongside her husband, owned a fish market in South Dallas. After retiring, Jo and her husband, Virgil, moved to Desdemona, Texas for 15 years. They eventually moved to Cedar Creek Lake where she spent the last 13 years.

Her education journey began at Pecos Texas High School and continued through Beautician School, which paved the way for her remarkable career. Jo was not only known for her professional skills but also for her vibrant personality and deep commitment to her family. Described as "one of a kind," she held a special place for her family in her heart. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy, and she cherished the close bond she shared with her siblings throughout her life. The family was known for their spirited teasing, games, and playful practical jokes that filled their gatherings with joy.

In addition to her devotion to her family, Jo had a passion for sports, and she was particularly proud of being a pioneer in women’s athletics. Alongside her sister Betty, she played on some of the first professional women’s softball teams.

Jo is survived by her two sons, Virgil F. Holdman Jr. of Desdemona, Texas, and Dale Holdman and husband Richard McDonough of Dallas, Texas. She leaves behind grandchildren Kristopher Holdman and wife Sarah of Rockwall, Texas, and Virgil F. Holdman III, known as "Trey," of Stephenville, Texas, as well as two great-grandchildren, Tanner and Linley Holdman of Rockwall, Texas. Jo is also remembered fondly by her sisters-in-law, Pat Landreth of Antlers, Oklahoma, and Ethel Green and husband Paul of Levelland, Texas, along with several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and her dear best friend and guardian angel, Peggy Dupree-Tyler of Tool, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 64 years, Virgil F. Holdman, as well as her brothers, Winks Landreth and Roy Landreth, and sisters, Betty Wright, Kay Pratt, and Sue Vinson.

A memorial service will be held in her honor on September 29, 2024, at Anderson-Clayton Bros. Funeral Home in Kemp, Texas, starting at 1:00 PM. Jo Nell Holdman will be remembered not only for her talents and accomplishments but also for the warmth and love she brought to her family and friends.
