Joan Marie Bedunah-Frost, born on March 5, 1954, in Eugene, Oregon, passed away leaving behind a legacy of love, generosity, and an adventurous spirit. She grew up in the Eugene and Springfield areas, later settling in Salem, where she spent the last 33 years of her life.
Joan was a woman of many talents and interests. She earned her GED and pursued higher education in computer science and accounting, always seeking to expand her knowledge. In her younger years, she embraced the thrill of the open sea as a commercial fisherman, cooking on the ship and forging deep connections—one of which led to meeting her beloved husband, Steve. Her strong work ethic extended to diverse roles, including her time as a meat cutter and an auto trader.
Joan found joy in the simple and meaningful aspects of life. In her youth she enjoyed going hunting. She had a passion for gardening, caring diligently for the bonsai plant gifted by her son. She also dedicated her time to helping others, preparing taxes with a meticulous hand and spending cherished moments with her beloved cats—Spike, Callie, Lil Bit, and Cheetah.
She was known for her outgoing and candid nature, a woman who spoke her mind yet held an immense warmth for those she loved. As a mother, daughter, and sister, she embodied generosity, always making sure to express her love in every text and phone call.
Joan is survived by her mother, Pauline; her husband, Steve Frost; her sisters, Susan Martin and Sara Douglas; her children, Kimberly Jones, Angela Canell, and Eric Frost; and nine grandchildren.
Joan’s presence will be deeply missed, but the love and memories she shared will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew her.
