Obituary of Joan Alice Brodeur
Joan (Wahl) Brodeur, 81, a lifelong beacon of warmth and devotion, passed away peacefully on July 16, 2025, joining her beloved husband, Ronald Brodeur, who predeceased her on October 22, 2022. Born in Fall River, Massachusetts, Joan was the daughter of the late Thadeus and Lillian (Cote) Wahl.
Joan was educated in the Fall River public school system and graduated from Durfee High School. Shortly thereafter, she began working at a local hospital, a decision that would shape the rest of her life. At just 20 years old, she met a kindhearted man named Ronald Brodeur within those hospital walls. Their love story blossomed from there. They were soon married, and by the age of 22, Joan had fully embraced motherhood, raising three children with boundless love, energy, and dedication.
Joan created a warm and nurturing home, where her family always came first. She was a devoted wife, a tireless mother, and later in life, a doting grandmother and a great grandmother who delighted in being a constant presence in her grandchildren's lives. Whether it was a field or stadium for a sporting event, a school recital, or a graduation, Joan and Ronald were always there, cheering from the crowd with love and pride.
After her children were grown, Joan had various jobs in retail. Her last job at Macy's was her favorite. It helped support her love of shopping and spoiling her family.
Her sense of adventure and youthful spirit kept her always on the move. She was known for her spur-of-the-moment outings, whether it was a leisurely drive up the Maine coast or a simple ice cream stop at Dairy Queen, her favorite treat.
Joan's zest for life was matched only by her deep love for her family. Her presence brought light to every room, and her laughter, kindness, and unwavering support were a gift to all who knew her. She shared a lifetime of memories with Ronald, from quiet moments at home to spontaneous road trips with their grandchildren, often in search of a good lobster roll and a bit of adventure.
Joan leaves behind a legacy of unconditional love, steadfast devotion, and joyful spirit. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by her children, grandchildren, extended family, and friends whose lives she touched so meaningfully.
In addition to her beloved husband, Joan was predeceased by her siblings. Sandra DeMarco and Thadeus Wahl.
She is survived by her adoring children, Steven Brodeur and his wife Zelia of Fall River, Ma., Scott Brodeur and his wife Chantal of Shrewsbury, and Lorrie Odams and her husband Neil of Methuen, Nine loving grandchildren, Haylee Murray, Hannah Brodeur and her fiancé Ben, Jake Newmark, Josh Newmark, Amanda Brodeur and her fiancé Tim, Ronald Brodeur, Andrew Brodeur, Jackson Odams and his significant other, Michaela and Nathan Odams, a sister, Lorrie Moss of Westport, MA, two great grandchildren, Wren and Faye Murray as well as many nieces and nephews.
