Joan Cammett, a beloved educator, adventurer, and matriarch, passed away peacefully at the age of 92 on October 10, 2025. Born in Melrose, Massachusetts to Joseph and Diane Lampasona, Joan's life was a vibrant tapestry of creativity, leadership, and global exploration.
A lifelong learner, Joan graduated from Melrose High School in 1951, earned her BFA from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design in 1955, an MS from the University of Bridgeport in 1975, and a Sixth-Year Certificate in School Administration from Southern Connecticut State University in 1977.
Joan married Kenneth Page Cammett on December 5, 1955 in Exeter, New Hampshire. Together, they built a life rooted in love and purpose, settling in Redding, Connecticut from 1963 to 1992, where they raised their three children.
Her career in education began as an art teacher at Bethel Middle School in 1972, where her passion and dedication quickly led to her promotion as Assistant Principal. Joan's impact extended beyond the classroom-she founded the school's ski club, orchestrating joyful trips to Southington Ski Mountain and Vermont, where students and chaperones skied with bells on their poles, creating a symphony of laughter and camaraderie on the slopes.
After retiring from the Bethel School System in 1992, Joan embraced a new chapter as Middle School Principal at the American International School in Vienna, Austria. Her five years abroad were deeply fulfilling, enriching both her life and the lives of her students.
In retirement, Joan continued to explore the world, traveling extensively throughout Europe and Asia with her children, grandchildren, and cherished friends. Her curiosity, warmth, and zest for life were constants, inspiring all who knew her.
Joan is survived by her sons Christopher and Tobin; daughter Paula (Cammett) Blivin; seven grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters. She was preceded in death by her brother, Peter Lampasona.
A memorial service was held at The Viera in
Corpus Christi, Texas on October 14, 2025.
A graveside service for the inurnment of ashes will take place on Saturday, November 1, 2025 at 1:00 PM at Winthrop Cemetery in Winthrop, Massachusetts.
Joan's legacy lives on in the countless lives she touched-with grace, humor, and an unwavering belief in the power of education and adventure.
