Joan P. Campbell, 81, of Franklin, passed away Friday, August 15, 2025, at Milford Regional Medical Center. She was a resident of Franklin for the past 40 years and the cherished wife of Daniel R. Campbell, to whom she was married for 60 years.
Born in Queens, New York, Joan was the daughter of the late William and Mary (Eck) Hoffmann. After the passing of her father at an early age, her family adapted by sharing a home with extended family - a preview of the juggling act she perfected decades later with four kids of her own.
After Joan graduated from Richmond Hill High School, she found herself at a CYO dance where she met Dan. What were the odds? A sophisticated Queens girl falling for a Southern Ohio boy who grew up without indoor plumbing. Somehow, it worked beautifully.
After marrying in 1964, Joan and Dan moved to Dublin, Ireland, before returning to Long Island, NY, where they spent several years. Their great East-to-West-to-East journey began in 1976 with a move to Nevada, then to Cleveland in 1980, and finally Franklin in 1984, where they made their permanent home. With each transition, Joan brought her trademark grace and determination, ensuring every place felt like home for her family.
Joan embarked on her greatest adventure, raising four children born within five years of each other. Her world revolved around ferrying kids to countless activities while maintaining her sanity through what can only be described as controlled chaos.
During her working years, Joan discovered her calling - serving as an administrative assistant in schools as the family moved, most recently in the Franklin Public Schools. This allowed her to get all the gossip in the community and build lasting relationships with students, teachers and staff.
All four children managed to graduate high school, attend college, and find their own paths. They got married, had children of their own, and created loving families, a testament to the foundation Joan and Dan built together.
Joan was known to family and friends as a devoted supporter of the QVC Network-because why shop at one store when you can have an entire network dedicated to bringing treasures directly to your living room? Many believe she single-handedly helped the network make the Fortune 500.
As health challenges mounted over the years, Joan faced each one with tenacity and grit. She seemed to have nine lives, bouncing back from situations that would have defeated lesser mortals. We always believed that she'd outlive all of us, but this last event must have been her ninth life, though we're still not entirely convinced she won't find a way back.
She is survived by her devoted husband Daniel; four children: Dan Campbell and his wife Suzanne of Oakton, VA, Bill Campbell and his wife Kristina of Portsmouth, NH, Brian Campbell and his wife Kara of South Burlington, VT, and Judy Soares and her husband Dan of Hopedale, MA; seven beloved grandchildren: Danny, Joey, Maya, Kaylee, Sarah, Maxwell, and Bennett; her sister Rosemary Hoffmann of Malverne, NY; and many cousins and friends.
Family and friends are warmly invited to attend her Funeral Mass at St. Mary Church in Franklin, with the date and time to be announced. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in Joan's memory to a charity of your choice.
