Joan Lucille Cehrs

Joan L. Cehrs, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away

peacefully on September 28, 2025, in Virginia Beach, Virginia. She was born on

November 4, 1936, in Illinois, and lived a full and vibrant life until her passing at the age of 88.

Joan worked as a contractor for the commissary at the Little Creek Amphibious Base,

where she was known for her dedication and hard work. Her professional career was

marked by a strong commitment to service, and she was respected by her colleagues

and those she served.

An avid reader and lover of travel, Joan cherished her trips to Ohio and was often

captivated by the serene beauty of mountain views. She found joy in cooking with her

husband, and they shared many cherished moments sitting together by the water,

enjoying each other's company. Joan also had a huge collection of owls that she

admired.

Joan is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 62 years, Irvin L. Cehrs, and her

parents, Louis and Lucille Christensen . She carried their memories with her

throughout her life, honoring their legacy in everything she did.

She leaves behind a devoted family who will miss her dearly: her daughters Leslie R.

Labianco and Ellen M. Cehrs-Tolliver (Lee), and her son Michael A. Cehrs (Vicki). Joan

was a proud grandmother to Jessica Cehrs, Jason Mendola (Angel), Joshua

Barrineau, Paul Barrineau (Meredith), Nicole Barrineau, as well as a cherished great-

grandmother to Lauren Barrineau, Natalie Barrineau, Taryn L. Barrineau and Waylon

Barrineau. She also leaves behind many other relatives and friends who will hold her

memory close.

The family invites all who knew her to celebrate Joan's life at a service to be held at

11:00 AM on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at Altmeyer Funeral Home Chesapeake

Chapel.

Joan will be remembered for her warmth, wisdom, and the love she gave freely to all

who had the privilege of knowing her.
