Joan M. Corsino, 86, passed away peacefully on November 23, 2023 after a long courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease. She was the wife of the late Alfred S. Corsino. Joan was born on December 9, 1936 in Waterbury, Connecticut, daughter of the late William McDonald Sr. and Lillian (Greenwood) McDonald.
Joan spent most of her young years growing up in Waterbury. Her family later moved to Woodbury and she graduated from Woodbury High School in 1954. She raised her family in Naugatuck and was active in the community for over 50 years serving on many boards and commissions. Joan loved education, she received a Master's of Education from SCSU, studied and worked in computer programing and was a licensed real estate broker in Connecticut.
Joan taught math and science at Hemingway Park School in Watertown and after retirement became an integral part in the family's real estate development business. Joan had many diverse interests. She loved the arts and painting, was an accomplished seamstress designing and sewing many elaborate outfits for her granddaughter and her fellow competitors for their figure skating competitions. She was a licensed genealogist who traveled throughout the country and abroad to do extensive family research. Joan loved traveling with Al and visited numerous countries throughout their years together. Joan dedicated her life to the caring of others. She was always there for family and friends when they needed her most.
The family would especially like to thank those who worked so diligently to care for Joan. Her aides; Winsome, Elsie and Annetta, the staff of the Villa and AccentCare Hospice.
Joan is survived by her daughter, Kathleen Vitiello and her husband Gary of Woodbury, her sons; Michael Peterson and his wife Alayne and Richard Peterson both of Wichita, Kansas, her granddaughter, Alyson Rebibo and her husband Jason of Woodland Hills, California, her three great grandchildren; Hudson, Emerson and Jaxson of Woodland Hills, California, her sisters; Vicky Joray of Ft Myers FL, Anna Spardone and her brother Bruce McDonald both of Naugatuck.
In addition to her husband and parents, Joan was predeceased by her siblings; Lois Cash, Patricia LePine, John (Jackie) McDonald, William McDonald Jr. and Richard McDonald.
Burial will be private. There will be a celebration of Joan's life in the spring.
