Joan Neal Denny, 88, passed away on Friday, August 2, 2024.

Joan was born in Burlington, NC. Her parents were Osborne Preston Redman and Rebecca Brown Redman.

Joan worked at Turrentine Middle School in the cafeteria and retired after 30+ years of service. She attended Hope Church and cherished the many friendships that she formed. Joan loved being outside; “working in her yard” was her favorite pastime. She also enjoyed a long standing Saturday morning tradition, in which she and her twin sister Jean would make their way to all of their favorite shopping places, ending with lunch before heading home. This Saturday morning excursion was rarely missed.

Joan’s family was her true joy. There was nowhere she would rather be than with them. She cherished family vacations, holidays, and attending any and every event that her grandchildren were a part of. Any time spent with family was what she and Donald lived for. Losing her husband Donald after 63 years of marriage was devastating but losing her twin sister Jean was unbearable. They had a bond that could not be broken, and as a result, after months of decline Joan followed her sister into the arms of Jesus.

Joan is survived by her daughter, Jolee (Mike) Shoe; her beloved grandchildren, Abby and Sam; and many nieces and nephews that she adored. Joan is preceded in death by three sisters; Jean Neal Mann, Mildred Brown Dabbs, and Carlene Brown Smith.

A celebration of life will be held to honor Donald and Joan Denny on Saturday, August 10th at 11 a.m. at Lowe Funeral Home officiated by Rev. Carrie Tuttle. A visitation with family will be held prior to the service at 10 a.m.

Joan’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of Joan’s caregivers. They always treated her with dignity, compassion and care. For that, we will be forever grateful. The words “Thank you” do not seem adequate. You each hold a special place in our hearts.
