Joan Hartman Martin Dize, age 90, passed away on July 15, 2025. She was born on June 17, 1935, in Forsyth County, to the late Brantley H. Hartman and Hazel Scott Hartman.
Joan's greatest joy and source of pride were her beloved daughters and family, whom she cherished beyond measure. She was a strong and spunky woman with a vibrant spirit and an infectious smile - usually followed by a wink of her eye. Her zest for life made every gathering brighter and every moment feel like a celebration whether she was entertaining at her lake house, on the golf course, singing with family or as the adored "Nana Claus" as she was known by her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Joan's love for life and deep pride in her family will continue to inspire and live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
Joan is survived by her four daughters, Debbie Crater (Fred), Marion Nataf (Jean Paul), Sheila Brewer (Billy), and Brenda Scroggins; 8 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren: brother Kenneth Hartman; and sister Wanda Walker.
In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by husband, Lewis Mitchell "Skitch" Dize; brothers Brantley "Bub" H. Hartman, Jr. and Michael "Mickey" Hartman; sister Norma Yountz; and grandson Stephan Nataf.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 26, 2025 at Fries Memorial Moravian Church 251 N Hawthorne Rd Winston-Salem, NC 27104.

I met Mrs. Dize and her dog she loved when she rented me her 1 bedroom house on Harrison Ave. I Lived in that house for some years then I moved into her other rental on Manchester St. She brought this small red rocking chair for my baby. We still have that rocking chair. She was a very sweet and lovable women.

Sharon and I met Joan when we moved to Lewisville and she was our neighbor "up the street"! We enjoyed many driveway conversations sharing about various topics but usually family...and grandchildren. Her daughter Debbie and husband Fred were friends from church and we had the pleasure over time meeting others in her family. She was so proud of them all. We've missed her fun personality since she moved several years ago. Prayers for her family!
