Joan L Fether

SAND CREEK – Joan L. Fether, age 96 of Sand Creek, passed away peacefully at her residence on Monday, January 22, 2024, under the care of Hospice of Lenawee. She was born in Kinnard, Ohio on September 15, 1927 to Herbert A. and Lillian R. (Wilkins) Lantz. Joan attended and graduated from Bellefontaine, Ohio High School, and furthered her education at Moody Bible Institute in Chicago. On November 3, 1956, she married Edwin P. Fether in Adrian, and he preceded her in death on January 18, 2023. Joan worked at Merillat Industries for over 25 years in the accounting department.
Joan loved her Lord Jesus Christ and was a very strong Christian. She played the organ at Adrian United Brethren Church and West Maple Avenue Baptist Church in Adrian. She also taught Sunday School for many years. Most recently, she was a member of West Rome Baptist Church.
She was also a wonderful wife and mother – acting as the pillar of her family. She loved to bake and there was never a time when cookies or pies were not present. In her limited free time, she loved to read Christian and Amish books and visiting with dear friends.
Surviving is her daughter, and as Joan describes, compassionate caregiver, Nancy Jo Fether; honorary daughter, Jane (Dick) Sinta, who were big help taking care of Brian, Edwin, and Joan; sister, Barbara Eide; sisters-in-law, June Lantz and Laura Fether; and many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death are her parents, Herbert and Lillian; husband, Edwin; son, Brian in 2015; brothers, Morris, Philip, Beryl, and Darrell Lantz; and two brothers-in-law.
The family of Joan would like to thank Hospice of Lenawee, especially nurse Aumend and aide Rachel, for their loving care of Joan.
Cremation has taken place and there will be no services. There will be a private burial of Joan's remains at a later date in Sand Creek Cemetery.
