With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Joan Kay Giacobetti on Tuesday, September 6, 2022 in Northbrook, Illinois. Joan died at home surrounded by family. We are forever grateful for her presence in our lives. Joan was born April 29, 1958, in Galesburg, Illinois to Eddie Goletz and Mary Jean (Bedell) Goletz. She earned a Masters in Art at Illinois State University. She married Richard Giacobetti on May 28, 1988, in Chicago. Joan worked as a Freight Forwarder in the shipping industry, and later as a receptionist for the Glencoe Park District.
Joan lived life to the fullest. Her wisdom and childlike love of simple pleasures such as cooking up a storm in the kitchen, or expressing her talents with drawing and pastels, were inspiring and uplifting for all who were blessed to know her.
Joan travelled extensively researching Romanesque and Gothic architecture and visiting cookie and gingerbread museums across Europe.
Joan bravely embarked upon a deep spiritual journey. With much persistence and dedication she awaken even more to the mysteries and miracles of life. Immersing herself in prayer support, spiritual book clubs, philosophy and history, Joan possessed an insatiable curiosity and admiration for the meaning of life. Thank you Joan, for teaching us to play more, to look for the good, and to be our authentic selves.
Joan is survived by her husband Richard, her mother Mary Jean, her brother Eddie and sister Julie, her aunt, uncle, cousins and innumerable friends.

Sweet Joan, I miss you everyday. Sometimes with tears for missing you and sometimes with smiles for all the times we laughed together. I still hear you in my head and feel you in my heart. I continue to talk to you because I know you hear me. I picture your beautiful smile lighting up heaven. You will always be my best friend and special sister. Until we meet again, our bond remains strong. God Bless You.

Sweet Joan: deeply loved by her family and friends, intelligent, trilingual, traveler, artist, gardener, phenomenal cook, beautiful. A woman of grace, dignity, wisdom, compassion, love, and, lucky for me, my best friend for over twenty years. We shared our life experiences, championed each other's life goals, leaned on each other in times of need, and, oh, how we laughed together. Joan spread joy and love into the world. I was blessed to have her in my life, she made me a better person. I will forever hold her in my heart and hear her voice in my head. I will forever celebrate the incredible woman she was and treasure the friendship we shared. Deepest condolences to her family. Sweet Joan, fly with the angels.
Love, Laura Sabol
