David William Osberg was born in Battle Creek, MI on January 18, 1938, and died on May 24, 2025, in Evanston, IL. He graduated from Lakeview High School and Albion College. He met his wife of 65 years, Alice Osterberg Osberg, while at Albion College.

Dave moved with his wife and two children, Ken and Laurie, to Northfield, IL after taking a job as a high school math teacher at North Shore Country Day in Winnetka, IL. While at NSCD he progressed to become the Head of Upper School and college counselor. Dave was well loved by students and faculty at NSCD during his time there, and he made some lifelong friendships.

After leaving NSCD, he received his PhD in education at Northwestern University, often riding his bike from his home in Winnetka to the campus in Evanston. In true Dave fashion, he also made a life-long friendship with his advisor, even after having to defend his dissertation. He began to work in educational testing development with Scott Foresman and followed the division as it was purchased by different companies. In pursuit of this career, he ended up taking a job in San Antonio, TX. He took a temporary apartment in Texas, but Winnetka was his home. His work had him travelling to California and New York, among other states, and then he would spend time in Winnetka ""on the way"" back. After a few years, he was able to return to live full time in his home in Winnetka of 53 years. While in Texas, he took advantage of the climate and played golf year-round, which was a lifelong passion of his.

Dave and Alice enjoyed traveling throughout the US and Canada, camping in their younger years with their children and driving the family to Florida to visit his mother, Wilda Osberg Fugit. Later together, Dave and Alice went on adventures such as whitewater rafting in Moab, UT, driving the Circle Tour around Lake Michigan, and visiting family in Nevada.

Dave was an avid reader, especially mystery novels. He loved to pull out his road atlas and locate the places mentioned in the novels he read. He was a lover of jazz and played both saxophone and clarinet in a band in high school and college. He spent much of his free time working around the house and in the garden. He was an avid Chicago sports fan, with the Cubbies and the Bears being his primary focus.

Dave was devoted to his family. In his later years, he would often say that having his family around him was what he wanted out of life. His children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were all recipients of his humor, kind and caring demeanor, and loving actions. He was calm and approachable and always good company. He was ready to listen and be supportive. He had a knack for entertaining his family with stories from his life.

Dave is survived by his wife, Alice Osberg of Winnetka, IL; his son, Kenneth Osberg; his daughter, Laurie Osberg and husband, Steven Bramson; his granddaughter Kristen Osberg and husband, David Marasco; his granddaughter Diana Osberg and husband, Sam Bradford; his great grandchildren Angel, Ashley, Brandon, Joshua and Angel (Yes! two grandchildren named Angel), and his great great granddaughter, Evie.

He is predeceased by his father Clifford William Osberg and his mother, Wilda Marie Shotwell Osberg Fugit.
