Joan Harms

Joan Harms, 78, passed away on October 17, 2025. She was born on May 22, 1947, in Webb City, Missouri, to Don and Marjorie (Ervin) Bull.

Joan was a proud graduate of Webb City High School, Friends University, and MidAmerica Nazarene University. On April 30, 1972, she married George Leonard. Over the years, Joan had a diverse and accomplished career, working at Midland Brake, Kustom Electronics, Honeywell, Harley-Davidson, and serving one term as Platte County Clerk. Early in her career, she and her husband also owned and operated Top Wire Line, an oil company.

Joan loved cooking, gardening, traveling, and attending church. She found great joy in spending time with her family and friends, and her warmth and kindness will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her son, Lee Leonard; Vernon Harms, her husband of twenty years; her sister, Patricia Leger; and her grandchildren, Samantha Leonard and Jackson Leonard, stepdaughters, Kendra Harms and Kristina Freeman, and three bonus grandchildren, Alexis Freeman, John Freeman, and Kendalynn Torrance and her exchange student, Kim Choi.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Don and Marjorie Bull and her sister, Virginia Bright, and her foster children, Ray Pacheco and Brad Fairchild.
