Joan Haslett Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by A.W. Rich Funeral Home - Fairfax on Nov. 19, 2025.
Joan Haslett passed away peacefully at home on November 16, 2025 with her family by her side.

Joan was born in New York City to the late Robert Haslett and Catherine (Lohden) Haslett. Joan graduated from Great Neck High School and continued her education with an undergraduate degree in Nutrition from the University of Vermont and a Masters of Public Health from St. Michael's College, Colchester, Vermont. She spent the majority of her professional career at the State of Vermont Health Department.

Joan was fiercely independent, determined, and devoted to those she loved. She loved to share her thoughts – whether it was about the early days of Ben and Jerry's, her early health struggles or sharing the joy of her family's accomplishments.

She loved to cook, garden, travel- following her son around the world, quilt, sew, knit, travel to her places in Maine (she loved lobster!) and could spend endless hours on the beach especially when the ocean was involved. Even though she had a Nutrition degree, she loved her sweets. Whether it was baking Christmas cookies, buying as many Mallomars as she could find, or finding joy when Papa Nicks had their Lemon Meringue pie available, she was always up for a good meal no matter the nutritious value.

Her heart had no bounds, lived life to the fullest and you always knew she was in the room with her dry humor and quirky mannerisms- that was just mom. She will be very deeply missed.

Joan is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Hale Johnson (Essex, Vermont), her son and daughter in law, Robert and Melissa Bouffard (Honolulu, Hawaii) and their children, her beloved grandchildren, Oliver and Isabelle Bouffard. She also leaves behind her honey and canine companion, Molly. Her greatest joy in life was being a mom.

The family would like to share their immense gratitude for the care and support that she (and her family) received over her stays at Porter Rehab in Middlebury, Vermont….especially, Craig Montmimy, Kevin Griffin, Nurse Angela, Nurse Michael, Karen Russell and the entire family of providers who helped our mom. In addition, we greatly appreciate the care and support from UVM Home Health and Hospice over the final days of Joan's life.

The family is planning a burial in the spring.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Helen Porter Rehabilitation and Nursing Fund or UVM Home Health and Hospice. Please visit www.awrfh.com to share your memories and condolences.
