Joan L. Heiter, 82, of Humboldt, passed away on Tuesday morning, June 24, 2025 at Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge.
Joan was born March 18, 1943 in Bradgate, Iowa, the daughter of John and Edna (Henderson) Madsen. She grew up in the Bradgate area and attended Bradgate School and graduated from Gilmore City-Bradgate High School in 1961. Joan married Carl Heiter and they later divorced. Joan was then united in marriage to Gerald L. “Jerry” Heiter on March 17, 1967. The couple made their home in Humboldt. She worked as a dispatcher for a number of years at the Humboldt Law Enforcement Center and she and Jerry were caretakers at Union Cemetery in Humboldt. Joan enjoyed quilting and crocheting, playing the piano and served as the church organist at both Rutland Trinity Lutheran Church and Lake Lutheran Church near Renwick.
Joan is survived by her children; John (Stacey) Heiter of Ankeny, Mike (Nancy) Heiter of Florida, Cathy (Kent) Crossley of Hardy, Tom Heiter of California and Jeanette Perez of California, her brothers, Roger (Shirley) Madsen of Sheffield, Iowa and Norman (Patricia) Madsen of Monroe, Iowa, also several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jerry, daughter Shelley Phelps and brothers Gene, Dean and Donald.
