Joan (Mitsotakis) Hourdakis, born October 11, 1934 passed on July 7, 2025, at the age of 90.
Born in Chania, Crete, Greece, to Eleni and Emmanuel Mitsotakis, Joan was a devoted sister to her two brothers, Andreas and Kiriakos, and half-sister, Vicky.
After completing high school, Joan bravely immigrated to the United States to live with her Thea Alexina and Theo John in Detroit. This is where she would reconnect with her beloved "Katsikaki," John. The two married in 1955 and, together, built a loving family and a successful career in the restaurant industry. Over the years, they owned several popular establishments in Metro Detroit, culminating with the Epicurean in the historic Penobscot Building.
Joan is survived by her husband, John; their children, George (Kathy), Manuel (Annabelle), and Helen (Bob); seven granddaughters, Ariana, Georgeann, Alle, Maggie, Kristen, Isabella, and Emma; and great-grandson, Angelo.
Funeral service Tuesday, July 15, at 12PM at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church 760 W. Wattles Rd Troy. Visitation at the church will begin at 11:30AM.
Final resting place Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly.
In honor of Joan's deep compassion and her support for children's causes, the family kindly requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and The Shriners Hospital -- organizations that were close to her heart.
