Joan Ionata Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Curlew Hills Memory Gardens Funeral Home on Oct. 22, 2024.
Joan Veronica Ionata, age 91, passed away peacefully at her home on October 19, 2024, in Dunedin, Florida. She was born on May 6, 1933, in Mount Vernon, New York where she grew up surrounded by a loving family before attending Mount Saint Vincent College in the Bronx.
After graduating with a degree in Education, Joan married her childhood friend, Fred Ionata, and together they embarked on a journey that took them first to St. Louis, where she began her career as a teacher, and then to Florida where they would settle for good.
Joan is survived by her beloved husband, Fred, her cherished children: Vincent, Catherine, Laura, John (wife Leigh) and Joseph (wife Shannon)..her cherished grandchildren: Katie (husband Kyle), Nina (husband Cole), Rachel, Nick, Isabel, Joseph, and Michael and her cherished great grandchildren: Jack, Charlie, Ford, Beau, and Knox. Joan was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Joanie and her adored son-in-law, Jay.
Known for her sharp intellect, Joan was a keen bridge player and could give any Jeopardy Champion a run for their money! She created precious family traditions, never forgot a birthday, and always made family gatherings special with her genuine loving spirit. Joan was dedicated to her faith in God and taught her children to embody that same faith.
Joan will be remembered for her selflessness and devotion to her family. She was always ready to assist with any project her children undertook (legitimate or zany), offering unwavering support to friends and family alike. Whether chauffeuring carfuls of rowdy children to a myriad of events, or cheering passionately at her children's sporting events, she brought enthusiasm and love to all occasions.
Joan will be profoundly missed by her family and everyone who knew her for the joy she brought to those around her. Her legacy shines bright and will remain with us always.
