Joan was born on June 8, 1933, in Grand Island to Andrew and Mildred (White) McCumber. She was a lifelong Nebraskan, growing up in Grand Island and graduating from Senior High in 1951.
She was united in marriage to Donald Bigley (later divorced), James "Jim" Davis, and Lavern "Jack" Jensen. Over the years, Joan made homes in Grand Island, Shelton, Ravenna, and Omaha before eventually returning to Grand Island. Alongside her husband Jim, she co-owned and operated Stockman's Lounge in Ravenna. She also enjoyed her time working as an Avon Lady, a role that connected her with many in the community.
Joan had a warm spirit and a zest for life. She was a devoted fan of Husker Football, loved watching classic movies-especially those featuring Shirley Temple-and never missed an episode of The Love Boat, and most recently Heartland. She read the newspaper regularly to stay informed about local events and enjoyed outings to the horse races, always betting on the grey horse-a strategy that often paid off.
Her most cherished memories included travels to Hawaii and Colorado, as well as camping trips with Jack. Above all, Joan treasured time with her family, particularly her grandchildren, and made a point to attend as many activities and events they were part of.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Doug (Kathryn) Davis of Omaha and Kathy Muchow of Grand Island; grandchildren, Michael (Adriann) Bigley, Geoff Muchow, Sarah (Craig) Sleicher, Amanda (Jon) Rood, Adam (Jewel) Bigley, Brandon Davis, Kristina (Matt) Kruid, and Marc Bigley; fourteen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Wilbur and Richard McCumber; five special nieces and nephews; and numerous step-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, James Davis and Lavern "Jack" Jensen; sons, Tom Bigley, Dick Davis, Donny Bigley, and Chuck Davis; grandson, Jonathan Muchow; great-granddaughter, Savannah Bigley; and sister-in-law, Bernadine McCumber.
Joan's life was filled with love, resilience, and laughter, and her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
